Creative Critical Reflection #1

In our film we used and challenged many conventions in the film industry.  In our film, Santa was put into a formal place of work for a comedic convention of setting since Santa is thought to be in a fantasy land. The elves in the film represent the workers who feel exploited by Santa, the boss. Taking a more lighthearted view on the exploitation of labor, we decided that a Christmas theme would deliver the message in the most humorous manner. Camera Shots We used unique camera shots that are not traditionally used, such as long takes with zoom ins and a lot of hand held shots with quick movements. Our goal was to make it look like someone was recording the meeting, again challenging conventions. We mostly used mid-shots and close-ups. Editing For the titles we stayed consistent in font, text size, and text color. When editing, I tried to place the text in places that had a contrasting background. I chose the font Curlz MT because I thought it looked good with our holiday them...

Digital Distribution Example - The Interview

The Interview The Interview made more than $15 million in the first four days available online on YouTube, Google Play, Xbox Live, and Sony's site.  These digital sales actually did better than the traditional film distribution. After a hacking incident, Sony decided to make the film available to independent movie theaters and online platforms.

TV Commercial - Hallmark or ABC If we were to have a TV commercial we would probably work to have it played on ABC or the Hallmark Channel. ABC has many comedies that seem to be targeted to the same audience as our film. Of course, the Hallmark Channel is famous for the holiday movies they play so our movie fits into their theme. Social Media Ad - Instagram Our audience is targeted toward a younger audience and Instagram is a very popular social media platform to draw in attention. We will advertise our film on our movie's Instagram page and on some of the main cast's pages as well. To make this advertisement I had a photoshoot with the main character, Santa, played by Caleb Irwin. In the app PicsArt, I selected the background to brighten it. In the app VSCO, I added a filter and changed the contrast. And finally in the app Phonto, I added the white and red lettering "UP TO SNOW GOOD" and "A Not So Merry Christmas." This ...

Digital Distribution Example - Ladybird

Lady Bird is a drama/comedy that focuses around the life of Christine McPherson (Lady Bird.) It was premiered at the Telluride Film Festival and then showed at the Toronto Film Festival. Lady Bird is on DVD and Blu-ray and is also available on Amazon Video, Vudu, Google Play, YouTube, and iTunes. It was released March 6, 2018 for DVD and Blu-ray and released February 13, 2018 for the download digital copy on Amazon and iTunes.
